Sister Style: Beyoncé and Solange Knowles Sport the Same Coat

It looks as though Beyonce and Solange Knowles share more than their genetic DNA or their musical talent. Evidently, they also share the same closet.

Earlier this fashion month, Beyonce took her front row seat at the adidas Originals x Kanye West Yeezy show during New York Fashion Week in bejeweled zipper-front Harbison separates that she topped with a contemporary mosaic color-block overcoat, also by Harbison. She accessorized with round sunnies, a fluffy oversize color-block clutch, and Alaia sandals.

Less than a month later, Solange hit the Paris Fashion Week circuit and stopped by the Vivienne Westwood and Andrew Gn shows in the same coat. But instead of draping it over her shoulder like big sis Beyonce, she kept it closed and styled the look with a box clutch and cool geometric color-block sandals.

Even though their personal styles have been vastly different in the past, this incident just goes to show how similar they truly are. So, is this a classic case of sister-to-sister sixth sense? We think so!

Get To Know Banks: Her Music, Style, and Love of Chanel

In the December issue of InStyle, on newsstands and available for digital download now, Karl Lagerfeld’s resort collection for Chanel finds its match in Banks, the mercurial muse of a spare, new R&B vibe. She provides the soundtrack to a richly textured world, and he creates the stunning wardrobe you wear when you get there. The following is an excerpt from her feature.

How funny for an artist based in sunny Los Angeles, Banks is drawn to shadowy, solitary places. Not that the 26-year-old musician doesn’t love the spotlight. “Onstage,” she says, “I am the purest form of me, the me-est me, without any other voices dimming who I am.” One of a new breed of R&B singers, Banks, née Jillian Banks, writes visceral ballads that hang loosely on spare beats. Though it took a decade of toiling in obscurity to hone her début album, Goddess, garnered the kind of critical and popular reception worth waiting for when it was released this fall. “I was patient with myself,” says Banks. “By the time I started recording, the atmosphere was there in my head.” She describes her personal ozone as “moody, honest, and nocturnal.”

Not surprisingly, nightfall also informs her fashion sensibility. “I like wearing a lot of black. Not just for the darkness of it,” she says. “Black is powerful.” Of course, here, dressed in the Chanel resort 2015 collection, she is less Maleficent and more Madeline. Karl Lagerfeld’s streak of brightness—evident in his densely patterned and ornately textured suits, tops, and dresses—is irresistible even to the most saturnine. “It is an exquisite collection,” says Banks cheerfully. “After all, Chanel is every girl’s dream and favorite thing in the world.”

Happy Birthday, Nicole Richie! The Style Star Dishes On Ear Piercings and Technicolor Hair

Happy 33rd birthday, Nicole Richie! As creative director of House of Harlow 1960, mom of two, and star of the hilarious web reality series and VH1 show Candidly Nicole, Richie is talented in multiple ways. But she’s probably best known for looking incredibly on-point on and off the red carpet, and for sparking style trends, two of which gained serious momentum this year—multiple piercings and pastel tresses.

Her ear piercings—she has nine total, five on one lobe and four on the other—are actually a birthday tradition. “I do one piercing a year for my birthday, although I just hit cartilage, and it was brutal,” Richie previously revealed to InStyle . “I don’t think I’m doing it again, like how high can I really go? That’s it for me; the jig is up.”

She may be done with piercings, but Richie’s colorful strands are still gaining traction. After bleaching her hair twice (a process that Richie said took “forever“) to dye it a pretty lavender hue, she switched things up four months later to debut a cerulean shade. “I was just ready for a change and I thought, once you bleach your hair, you might as well go through the colors,” she stated matter-of-factly. “Because I’m going to be 33, when is this really going to happen again?”

We’re on the lookout for her next technicolor choice, but in the meantime, let’s honor her 33rd birthday with a look at her transformation, from when she was 11-years-old in 1992 to present day.

Elisabeth Moss, Anjelica Huston Highlight Personal Style in Gap’s Fall Ad Campaign

Chances are you have a uniform that makes you fell unequivocally like you. Whether it’s a flowy dress and heels or jeans and sneakers, wearing some version of this ensemble feels at once normal and comfortable. Gap is celebrating everyone’s unique take on normal dressing with its new ad campaign, which is all about the individuality of personal style.

“Finding your own version of ‘dress normal’ is an art—my normal is different from your normal, and that’s the essence of the campaign,” Seth Farbam, Gap’s global chief marketing officer, says of the campaign. “This fall, Gap celebrates dressing for yourself and finding those perfect items—a pair of jeans, a T-shirt—that make you feel confident to be your most authentic self.”

The retailer has enlisted the help of some stylish celebs for the campaign, including Elisabeth Moss, Jena Malone, Zosia Mamet, Luke Grimes, and Anjelica Huston. More celebs will be revealed closer to the official Sept. 2 launch date. All of the ads, which focus on what Gap calls autumn’s standout trend, black denim, bear slogans like, “Dress like no one is watching,” and “Let your actions speak louder than your clothes.”

Naomi Watts Nails Weekend Style in a Denim Shirtdress

Every Monday, like clockwork, we usher in the work week with a slew of updates detailing what our favorite celebs did over the weekend. And, especially in the summertime, few are more exciting to read than those concerning Naomi Watts. When she’s not busy filming, the Australian actress spends nearly every weekend gallivanting around the great outdoors—biking, scootering and generally living life with a capital L—with her husband Liev Schreiber and their two sons, Sasha and Samuel, in tow.

On a recent warm weather jaunt to the Brentwood Farmers’ Market, Watts was spotted rocking the perfect off-duty ensemble: a straw fedora, floral Birkenstocks and a denim shirtdress by Michael Stars. Made of a soft Tencel material that’s washed down and bleached through, the playful frock features reversed fabric on the front pockets, a drawstring to cinch the waist and button-down front. “We wanted to take that perfect, easy denim dress and give it an elevated and modern edge,” Michael Stars co-founder Suzanne Lerner told InStyle.

We can’t help but love the laid-back vibe of Watts’ look. After all, we demonstrated its wearability ourselves just a couple of months ago. If you want to nab the look, you’d better act fast: the Michael Stars Denim Tencel Shirt Dress is currently on sale (score!) for $ 89 at michaelstars.com.
