What’s Right Meow: Meet Our InStyle Editor’s Fashionable Cat, Randy

This week we’re introducing the world to InStyle Senior Style Editor Ali Pew’s dapper cat, Randy: a blue-eyed Ragdoll with a cool, mellow personality.

Named after baseball Hall of Famer Randy Johnson, the four-legged fur ball has been with Pew for the past five years and was adopted from a breeder in Utah by Pew’s husband, footwear designer Oliver Clark.

Sure, he’s clearly adorable, but he’s more than just a pretty face: he’s also a professional model. Yes, that’s right–Randy, the model cat. In 2012, he posed for fashion label United Bamboo for consideration of their annual cat calendar and sported a cute all-black ensemble for the occasion (above). The frock featured a statement bow on the back as well as sheer lace accents near the hemline and on the sleeves.

“After the shoot, my husband and I were interviewed about Randy and it felt very Best in Show. We were like stage parents,” Pew says. “Now we take pictures of him all the time. He’s used to having bright lights in his face!”

Randy also modeled for the “Animal Attraction” fashion feature in the April 2012 issue of Dazed and Confused (above). Behind the scenes, he was a pro working the camera due to a characteristic common among Ragdoll cats of being relaxed even in unfamiliar settings. As a result, the photo shoot was a breeze for the feline who could strike practically any pose. While he did look lovely alongside haute cat-ure clothing, he usually just enjoys being in his fur and natural element.

And worldly as he is, he’s ready for any trips that may come up thanks to a pawesome fake license (below) made by Clark, who draws design inspiration from his pet muse.

Can you say cuteness overload? We can’t wait to see what his next campaign entails.

Meow! Miranda Kerr, Heather Graham, and More Celebrate Animal Print at the Opening of Roberto Cavalli’s New Boutique

The Just Cavalli store was awash with loud prints and a very fashionable crowd last night at the flagship boutique opening in New York City. Guests including Heather Graham and Miranda Kerr sipped on cocktails made with Roberto Cavalli Vodka while DJ Mad Marj spun tunes by M.I.A. and Katy Perry.

Designer Roberto Cavalli arrived with Kerr on his arm, and everyone flocked to congratulate him on the boutique’s grand opening. “Just Cavalli is so sexy, so young looking. I’m excited to see the young, bright American girls wearing Just Cavalli. They will understand it,” Cavalli told InStyle.com exclusively.

“He just has a great spirit about him,” Kerr, dressed in a floor-length animal-print Just Cavalli gown, told us. “His clothes fit and are wearable, but still sexy.” After exploring the store (which features one wall covered in floor-to-ceiling fringe and a suspended flight of stairs covered in transparent python print), guests took in the pre-fall runway show that followed next, where models emerged from the lower level, making a loop around the store and then outside onto the street for passers-by to see.

The collection was signature Cavalli, featuring richly colored leather and striking patterns, including animal print. “It is the usual for me. It is my beginning,” the designer said of why he often uses the vibrant pattern. “I take my animal print from the real photo of the animal that I shoot. That is the secret to my animal print!”
