March 15, 2015 @ 5:01 pm

We’re counting down the days until Insurgent is out (one more week!) and star Shailene Woodley has never looked better onscreen or off. Most recently, for the film’s London premiere on Wednesday, the actress turned heads in a gorgeous ivory Ralph Lauren Collection gown. And according to her stylist, Ilaria Urbinati, there is so much more to come.

“It’s fun to surprise people with fashion,” says Urbanati, who described the star’s style as simple and clean. “Shailene likes to be comfortable and casual in her personal life, but we go big for big events.” Over the years, Woodley has tackled many trends, from colored leather to Hawaiian prints, with her signature effortless ease. “Shailene always stays true to herself,” Urbanati says. “She is five-foot-ten and can wear practically any silhouette or color, but she doesn’t like things that are too fussy or girly.”

And as Woodley’s career evolves, expect her look to follow suit. “Her aesthetic changes from film to film, so it’s my job to find outfits that speak to her and express who she is,” adds Urbanati. No matter what the role, “she goes for the wow moment every single time.”

Julianne Moore’s Red Carpet Must-Have? A Good Spray Tan

When it comes to getting red carpet-ready, Julianne Moore knows what it takes to perfect her look. “I like a good spray tan—it’s a must,” Moore told InStyle at last week’s 2015 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, where she wowed in a Saint Laurent gown. “You have no idea how white I am because this is tan! Can you imagine what I’d look like without one? That would be horrible.”

The actress, who yesterday earned a best actress Oscar nomination for her touching role in Still Alice, also revealed that she hasn’t always believed getting bronzed up was necessary or flattering: “Actually, there was a period in my career where every time I did a photo shoot, they always wanted to make me tan,” she shared. “They would tan me, and I would tell them that I looked like a Tootsie Roll or log. I’d be the same color as my hair!”

Happy Birthday, Matthew McConaughey! See the Interstellar Star’s Best Red Carpet Looks

Happy birthday, Matthew McConaughey! The actor turns 45 today. While his acting career took off from starring in addictive romantic comedies opposite Kate Hudson and Jennifer Lopez, McConaughey has since foregone putting his chiseled abs on full display, and has instead opted for roles of the more dramatic variety.

Cases in point: his critically acclaimed performances in HBO’s True Detective, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Dallas Buyers Club—the last of which earned him his first Oscar. And now, the father of three is adding yet another buzz-worthy movie title to his growing repertoire in Interstellar, Christopher Nolan’s latest film that also stars Hollywood heavyweights Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain.

In honor of McConaughey’s birthday, we’re taking a look back at his red carpet style.

The Latest Trend to Hit the Red Carpet? Pockets!

Blake Lively wowed the crowd when she stepped onto the red carpet at the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival in a luminescent tea-length Chanel dress with mini apron pockets. And once we saw more celebs showing off the pockets in their gowns along the French Riviera, we became fixated on the trend.

Julianne Moore and Kendall Jenner also donned dresses featuring the tiny hand-holders. Lively and Moore both opted for gowns from Chanel’s spring 2014 couture collection (below), and Jenner chose a frock from Chanel’s resort 2014 collection. Who doesn’t love a little pocket detailing on the red carpet?

The 2014 festival has produced some majorly stunning looks and these stars know how to work a red carpet. While mini pockets may be less than practical on these lavish dresses, they do make for some excellent posing!

Jennifer Lawrence’s Latest Red Carpet Look? A Slinky Velvet Dress and Slick Strands

As the face of Dior, Jennifer Lawrence has had a long-standing relationship with the brand. In the past year, we’ve witnessed the actress in a nonstop a parade of Dior gowns, couture and otherwise, on the red carpet. In fact, we had seen so much of Lawrence in Dior (falling in Dior, accepting awards in Dior, sitting front row at Dior, posing for Dior) that we could barely remember a time when she wasn’t contractually obligated to wear the label. And that’s why we were so taken aback when she broke her streak and hit the world premiere of X-Men: Days of Future Past on Saturday in a non-Dior dress (only Lawrence could rock headlines for playing designer switcheroo!).

The actress stunned all when she stepped out in a slinky velvet jacquard bias-cut Jason Wu slip gown that molded to her every curve. She further amped up the sensuality by pairing the rich fabric with dark, moody accessories, like Ana Khouri jewelry and a black Kotur clutch. What’s more, she even debuted a new hairstyle: a deep-parted style with her longer strands slicked to one side.

It’s definitely a new look for Lawrence, and it’s one we can get behind (though after much deliberation). It could be the beginning of a whole new aesthetic or simply a one-time fluke. As to whether she’ll experiment with other brands or resume her Dior run, we’ll just have to wait until her next red carpet appearance.

In the meantime, take a look back at all her looks on and off the red carpet.
