See Which Film Won Movie of the Year at the MTV Movie Awards

April 12, 2015 @ 10:34 pm

After an extremely eventful night filled with Vin Diesels’s Paul Walker tribute, Robert Downey Jr.s’ Generation Award acceptance speech, and more, the biggest moment of the 2015 MTV Movie Awards came when Dwayne Johnson—aka The Rock—presented the Movie of the Year award to the cast of The Fault in Our Stars. The heart wrenching film, starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, beat out American Sniper, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, Guardians of the Galaxy, Gone Girl, Boyhood, Whiplash, and Selma.

It was a big night for The Fault in Our Stars, which is based on John Green’s young-adult novel, as Woodley took home two other popcorn awards for the film: one for Best Female Performance and the other for Best Kiss, which she shared with Ansel Elgort who was noticeably absent from the ceremony. But Elgort took to Twitter to let his fans know he was tuned in! The actor tweeted “Watching the MTV movie awards from providence because I’m filming tomorrow at 6am. Wish I could be there :( Rooting for u shai!! #tfios.”

Congrats to the cast!

Rihanna Performs “BBHMM” for the First Time at the iHeartRadio Music Awards

Rihanna is back with a vengeance! The singer performed her just-released single “Bitch Better Have My Money” at tonight’s iHeartRadio Music Awards, and she was on fire.

The star emerged onstage from—what else—a helicopter. Flanked by dancers wearing all-black ensembles, Rihanna embodied the theme of her song in head-to-toe Versace, including a bright emerald green fur coat over an body-hugging LBD, leather thigh-high boots, a statement choker necklace, and bold sunnies. And she didn’t only look amazing: her dance moves also had us majorly impressed.

What Does Lorde Do with Her Outfit After an Awards Show?

January 30, 2015 @ 6:23 pm

After rocking a custom-made outfit on the red carpet, you might as well wear it again—and Lorde is totally on board with that. The singer took to her Instagram this week to show off an ensemble that featured the black Narciso Rodriguez crop top she wore to the Golden Globes earlier this month, only this time with no red carpet in sight.

“All into reusing parts of past award show outfits (this is my golden globes top) cause they’re CUSTOM MADE and too good to just hang up and never wear again,” Lorde captioned the shot, pictured below. She paired the tank with high-waisted jeans by Karen Walker and white Stan Smith sneaks, creating a much more casual look than the glam pantsuit she sported at the Globes.

And Lorde isn’t the only star who’s been dishing on what happens to her red carpet looks post-awards show. Jessica Chastain recently revealed to People StyleWatch that she’s now the proud owner of some of her favorite custom-made creations. “I’ve been very lucky that if a designer has made a dress especially for me that they let me keep it,” Chastain said. “I’m a lucky girl, but my storage unit is getting very big.” Chicest storage unit ever? We think so.

Michelle Obama Lights Up the Phoenix Awards Dinner in a Monochromatic Gown

Here is all the proof you need that you can wear white after Labor Day! Michelle Obama looked positively statuesque in a white-hot Bibhu Mohapatra gown at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 44th Annual Legislative Conference Phoenix Awards Dinner on Saturday. The dress featured a halter-style neck and asymmetrical black stripe accents on the bodice’s front and a black trim at the waist. Obama accessorized the outfit with dangling earrings and styled her hair in loose curls for the Washington, D.C., event, where President Barack Obama delivered the keynote speech.

Michelle Obama is obviously a big fan of Mohapatra: Not only has she worn his designs before but the Indian-born and New York-based designer has also been invited to the White House’s first fashion workshop on Oct. 8. With the First Lady hosting the event, it’s no wonder that she is stepping up her style. We’ll have to keep an even closer eye on her fashion choices as the event draws near!

ESPY Awards Exclusive: This Is How Maria Sharapova Got Ready for Her Major Night

The ESPY Awards, aka the biggest night of the year for sports stars to show off what they look like out of their uniforms (hello, hotties!), took place last night and Maria Sharapova looked a-ma-zing. The 27-year-old tennis superstar rocked an Antonio Berardi stretch jersey cocktail dress with lace sleeve detailing to present at the event—and take home the Best Female Tennis Player of the Year award, thankyouverymuch. She accessorized with Walter Steiger shoes, a Bottega Veneta clutch, and jewelry by Irene Neuwirth and Jennifer Fisher. Love that look? So do we! Which is why she snapped pics of her getting-ready process to give us all the exclusive deets.

Check ‘em out below:

What Costumes Won Big for Film and Television This Year? Inside the Costume Designers Guild Awards

One of the reasons we love our favorite films and television shows is the costuming—and the top designers were honored at the 16th annual Costume Designers Guild Awards over the weekend. Held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California, stars like Kerry Washington, Tony Goldwyn, Olivia Munn, Mindy Kaling, and Kiernan Shipka came out to celebrate the event, which was hosted by Scandal‘s Joshua Malina. The Guild handed out competitive awards for costume design excellence in seven categories for film, television, and commercial work, with the costumers behind Blue Jasmine, 12 Years a Slave, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, House of Cards, Downton Abbey, and Behind the Candelabra all taking home top honors.

This year, five-time Academy Award nominee Amy Adams was honored with the Lacoste Spotlight Award, which honors an actor whose talent and career personifies an enduring commitment to excellence, including a special awareness of the role and importance of costume design. ”I just had such an amazing privilege working with so many extraordinary costume designers and so many wonderful costume departments, and I’ve learned so much,” Adams says. ”[Costume designers] have taught me that clothing is a language, but that costume is an art… I am so, so lucky to work with amazing artists.”

Additionally, writer, producer, and director Judd Apatow was recognized with the Distinguished Collaborator Award for his support of costume design and creative partnerships with costume designers. “I feel like this is really more for all the costume designers that I’ve worked with over the years,” Apatow tells InStyle. “They really work with us to create these characters.” Congratulations to all the night’s big winners!

Beyonce Was A Sight Of Swarovski Crystals In Her Vrettos Vrettakos Gown At the Brit Awards In London

No one could keep their eyes off of Beyonce during her surprise performance at the 2014 Brit Awards in London last night, and for good reason! Not only was her appearance at the show her first in a decade—she previously performed “Crazy In Love” in 2004—but she also sparkled onstage in a green-blue Swarovski-encrusted Vrettos Vrettakos long-sleeved gown complete with sheer panels along the sleeves. What’s more, the gown is embellished with over 100,000 crystals and if it reminds you of Beyonce’s iconic blue catsuit from the Mrs. Carter World Tour, it’s because both looks were designed by the Greek designer himself.

So why all the glitz and glam for Beyonce’s performance at the awards show? Well first because she is Queen B and secondly because the singer performed her hit song “XO” off her self-titled visual album for the first time ever for a televised performance, which she lovingly dedicated to her “incredible fans.” We love you like XO too Beyonce! Scroll down to watch the singer’s full performance from the 2014 Brit Awards.

What do Amy Adams, Lupita Nyong’o, and Sandra Bullock have in common? A Critics’ Choice Movie Award! During last night’s 19th annual awards ceremony, three of our favorite leading ladies took home a glass statuette—Adams (Best Actress in a Comedy), Nyong’o (Best Supporting Actress), Bullock (Best Actress in an Action Movie) at the Barker Hangar in the Santa Monica Airport—and they looked great doing it! From Adams’ pink draped cape-like Roland Mouret gown to Nyong’o’s custom ivory silk crepe bandeau Calvin Klein Collection dress, the ladies sure set the bar for awards season gowns. “It reminds me of the sea,” Nyong’o said about her dress. “The sea makes me calm, and I was hoping that it would help with [tonight]!”

As the rest of Hollywood’s biggest stars, not only did they honor their peers—including Cate Blanchett (Best Actress), Matthew McConaughey (Best Actor), and Jared Leto (Best Supporting Actor)—they also celebrated this past year’s greatest works in cinema—from 12 Years a Slave (Best Picture), American Hustle (Best Comedy), to Her (Best Original Screenplay).
