What Does Lorde Do with Her Outfit After an Awards Show?

January 30, 2015 @ 6:23 pm

After rocking a custom-made outfit on the red carpet, you might as well wear it again—and Lorde is totally on board with that. The singer took to her Instagram this week to show off an ensemble that featured the black Narciso Rodriguez crop top she wore to the Golden Globes earlier this month, only this time with no red carpet in sight.

“All into reusing parts of past award show outfits (this is my golden globes top) cause they’re CUSTOM MADE and too good to just hang up and never wear again,” Lorde captioned the shot, pictured below. She paired the tank with high-waisted jeans by Karen Walker and white Stan Smith sneaks, creating a much more casual look than the glam pantsuit she sported at the Globes.

And Lorde isn’t the only star who’s been dishing on what happens to her red carpet looks post-awards show. Jessica Chastain recently revealed to People StyleWatch that she’s now the proud owner of some of her favorite custom-made creations. “I’ve been very lucky that if a designer has made a dress especially for me that they let me keep it,” Chastain said. “I’m a lucky girl, but my storage unit is getting very big.” Chicest storage unit ever? We think so.

Stiletto Heaven: Sarah Jessica Parker Shows Off Her Latest Shoe Collection

January 28, 2015 @ 7:23 pm

Actress-turned-shoe designer Sarah Jessica Parker has expanded her insanely popular shoe collection, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Now the collection, which she launched in 2014 on Nordstrom with wild success rates, is now also available for purchase on Zappos Couture.

And it’s giving us a much-needed burst of color during this dreary winter. “We wanted to rethink what might be considered a neutral, which gives women just another way of getting dressed in the morning,” Parker says in a video on couture.zappos.com. “We want purple to be the new black, we want gray to be the new black, we want scarlet to be the new black. We want women to be really brazen about using color because I think women are always looking for that little thing to set them apart.”

Ready to add some unexpected neutrals to your wardrobe? So are we.

Haute Moments from the Dior Couture Show: Crazy Onesies, Fancy Raincoats, and More

Paris Couture Fashion Week is officially off! Last season, we saw some zany prints (think: rats and pigeons), cool gown-pant hybrids, and couture bike shorts sprinkled amid breathtaking creations. We didn’t think it was possible, but this season, couturiers have truly one-upped themselves.

To wit: Raf Simons inspired awe and shock when he opened the Dior Haute Couture spring 2015 show with what could be mistaken for raincoats, albeit fancy raincoats (below). The idyllic plastic toppers, crafted from what we can only venture to guess was PVC printed with scenic florals, practically upstaged the sequin-encrusted minis underneath.

But if that didn’t elicit shock, the line-up of crazy one-pieces sure will. There were some wonderfully and chaotically printed in haphazard lines punctuated with graphic shapes, while there were others  that were striped and doused in all-over sequins (above).

And there were, of course, beautiful pannier-style pieces (a silhouette that carried over from last season) and other dreamy numbers to cry (slash drool) over. Ahead, check out the other couture moments from Dior, along with Atelier Versace, Schiaparelli, and more.

Bradley Cooper’s Stylist Says His Oscars 2015 Look Will Be “Timeless Like Carey Grant”

When you’re nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Academy Awards, you better believe you put a lot of thought into your outfit. American Sniper‘s Bradley Cooper already is—well, kind of; his stylist Ilaria Urbanati is doing the thinking for him. And it’s going to be timeless. “Bradley really likes to go old-fashioned, like Carey Grant,” she told InStyle at the launch party for her Eddie Bauer men’s capsule collection at the Sundance Film Festival. “I think it’s important to be able to look back at photos from awards shows in fifty years and see something that still looks good after all that time.”

That being said, the search for the perfect tux has already begun. Urbanati said “almost every label” has offered to create a custom look for Cooper. But she’s not doing custom—they don’t want to commit to one thing. “I always bring a lot of options for Bradley, but he always goes very classic for the Oscars,” she said. “He might do a midnight or a black, but I don’t see any color happening. But it’s really going to be a case of ‘may the best tux win.’” Game on, menswear designers! We’ll definitely be keeping our eyes peeled.

Shop 10 Chic and Cozy Sweaters Under $100

If you’re in need of some retail therapy, the best way to spend your money is on something classic that can be worn time and time again like a sweater. Because knits tend to only have a few years of good wear in them (they loose shape easily!), it’s a good piece to buy at a sensible price.

Julianne Moore’s Red Carpet Must-Have? A Good Spray Tan

When it comes to getting red carpet-ready, Julianne Moore knows what it takes to perfect her look. “I like a good spray tan—it’s a must,” Moore told InStyle at last week’s 2015 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, where she wowed in a Saint Laurent gown. “You have no idea how white I am because this is tan! Can you imagine what I’d look like without one? That would be horrible.”

The actress, who yesterday earned a best actress Oscar nomination for her touching role in Still Alice, also revealed that she hasn’t always believed getting bronzed up was necessary or flattering: “Actually, there was a period in my career where every time I did a photo shoot, they always wanted to make me tan,” she shared. “They would tan me, and I would tell them that I looked like a Tootsie Roll or log. I’d be the same color as my hair!”

12 Monkeys Premieres Tonight: Star Emily Hampshire Reveals What It’s Like to Take On Brad Pitt’s Iconic Movie Role

It may sound crazy, but Emily Hampshire is basically Brad Pitt. Don’t believe us? Just wait until you see her portrayal of a mental patient in Syfy’s new time-traveling series, 12 Monkeys. The Canadian actress takes on the female version of a character originally portrayed by Pitt in the 1995 film of the same title. “The writers didn’t know how anybody was going to live up to Brad’s part, so they changed the role to a woman,” Hampshire told InStyle during a recent visit to our New York offices. “His character’s name is Jeffrey Goines, and I’m Jennifer Goines.”

Despite the gender switch-up in the modern day take on the cult-classic, Hampshire said she was under “a lot of pressure” when reprising the role of Goines, who is enlisted to help a time traveler (played by James Cole) from the future as he tries to save the population from a deadly virus. “It’s the same character, but I’m not doing an impression of his performance—it’s totally new,” she said.

PHOTOS: See Brad Pitt’s Transformation Through the Years

Fans of the original 12 Monkeys will appreciate subtle nods to the original film. “They made a replica of the sweater that Brad wore in the movie,” Hampshire said. “It’s this grungy velour sweater from the nineties. Fans went crazy when they saw pictures of me wearing it at Comic-Con!” That one pullover is as far as it goes when it comes to similarities between Jeffrey and Jennifer Goines’s wardrobes.

Spoiler alert: Hampshire revealed that her character “comes into a lot of money” following a plot twist, and “starts wearing Christian Louboutins and Yves Saint Laurent dresses.” The actress just wishes that she knew how stylish her costumes would be when she first took on the role. “I thought my character would be wearing pajama pants in the hospital the whole time,” she said. “Now I wish I had asked to keep my wardrobe!”

Tune in to the show tonight, Jan. 16, at 9 p.m. ET on Syfy.

Cara Delevingne Stars In DKNY’s Downtown-Cool Spring 2015 Ad Campaign

It-Brit model Cara Delevingne may not be a true born-and-bred New Yorker, but she may as well be. The model-actress-singer-designer is as international as they come, with a career that’s taken her all across the globe. So who better than jet-setter Delevingne to rep one of the world’s most international cities and its coolest street wear brand?

After seasons of working with DKNY, including one very downtown-chic #CaraD4DKNY capsule collection later, Delevingne is fronting DKNY’s spring 2015 ad campaign, along with models Binx Walton, Xiao Wen, and Sam Rollingson (all of whom have connections to New York City).

Shot by photog Gregory Harris at the Coleman State Skatepark under the Manhattan bridge, the campaign is a melting pot of “modern classics, sport elements, and playful geometric styles for the always moving, multicultural, multitasking New Yorker.” As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, and these perfectly encapsulate the very soul of New York. #WeAreNYC!

The Dapper Men We Can’t Wait to See at the Golden Globes

January 10, 2015 @ 7:03 pm

While women’s fashion may take center stage on the Golden Globes red carpet, we have to admit that sometimes the men steal the show. Whether they choose a risk-taking green velvet tuxedo jacket (à la Matthew McConaughey at last year’s Globes) or go with something more classic, the guys now bring it just as much as the ladies do in the style department. Plus, this year’s crop of nominees in the Best Lead Actor and Best Supporting Actor categories is easy on the eyes, to say the least. If, like us, you can’t wait to see the men of the Golden Globes walk down the red carpet on Sunday night, we have a teaser of sorts: we’ve gathered photos of our favorite nominees, from Jake Gyllenhaal (above) to Benedict Cumberbatch. Check them out below:
