What’s Inspiring BCBG’s Lubov Azria? Add The Whitney To Your Must-See List

Chandeliers constructed out of monochromatic goblets and a portrait of Kermit the Frog were just a few of the things that completely dazzled us at last night’s opening for the Whitney Museum 2014 Biennial. And there to help guide us through it was BCBG Max Azria‘s Chief Creative Officer Lubov Azria, who added some of her own texture and color to the scene with a midi-dress from her pre-fall collection and a bold red lip.

“Art and Fashion are one entity, they are deeply tied to self-expression,” she told us of BCBG’s decision to sponsor this year’s exhibition. “The Biennial is very much like fashion week for the Whitney, but what I love most is that this place never plays it safe.” Among the 103 artists who left an impression? “Terry Adkins—he created these beautiful metal discs that protrude from the wall.” So go ahead, wander through each strikingly distinct nook and find your statement piece now through May 25!

From Kerry Washington to Lupita Nyong’o, Hollywood’s Leading Ladies Celebrated at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon

Kerry Washington, Garcelle Beauvais, and Alfre Woodard stepped out on the red carpet in bold frocks at the 7th annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon to celebrate Lupita Nyong’o, who received the Best Breakthrough Performance Award. ”Thank you very much for inviting me to be a part of such an extraordinary community. I am surrounded by people who have inspired me, women in particular whose presence on screen made me feel a little more seen and heard and understood,”says Nyong’o during her acceptance speech.

As stars mixed and mingled, and enjoyed a savory lunch complete with beet carpaccio, stuffed chicken, and a vegan eggplant dish, Nyong’o ended her emotional speech with a touching message for every girl and woman. “I hope that my presence on your screen and my face in magazines may lead you, young girls, on a beautiful journey,” she adds. “That you will feel the validation of your external beauty, but also get to the deeper business of being beautiful inside.” How inspirational!
